People: Uniqueness in simplicity - Andrejs Šemeļevs

...Name: Andrejs Šemeļevs
...Profession: Fashion Design Student, Photographer & Blogger
...Location: Ogre, Latvia

There is saying that "less is more" and I couldn't agree more - well unless we're talking about sweets and clothes, then I unfortunately one hundred percent don't get the concept. Anyways,  let's get back to the topic...
When it comes to fashion, being able to have a minimalistic style and still stand out can be a tough nut to crack, especially when you prefer less bright colours. However, Andrejs proves that this can be done, if you know what your style is about, stick to it and focus on improving it with certain elements which we'll talk about later on.

The young man with a love for dark shades dropped following gems when it comes to his style inspiration:

"Grey colour, steel and glass designs in interior - this is what I love"

Comparing this statement above to his outfits you can't help but find lots of parallels. His looks seem to revolve around crisp and clean colours like white as well as cool, subtle and elegant ones like grey and black. These colours in combination with the straight and sharp cuts of his clothes enhance the coolness, elegance and edge they convey. This can also be associated with glass and steel.

Furthermore, the fashion design student disclosed that he is "really inspired by creative, elegant and stylish people." He also likes "attending various events related to fashion and the fashion industry" for inspiration.
Why do his minimalistic looks attract so much attention? Let's take a closer look.
Details, details details!

1. Having bold graphic geometrical prints and cuts on a rather plain piece can add just the right amount of edge and also act as an eye-catcher. However, it's important to stay in the minimalistic colour scheme and not to go crazy with colours and accessories.

2. Adding a sraight cut long blazer with a subtle colour to a regular t-shirt and skinny jeans look can have you serving elegance. A simple but elegant turtle neck top, bag and skinny jeans can also do the trick, as he showcases in the picture below.

3. Working with over-sized and/or long tops as well as layering with cardigans, blazers and jackets is also a way to go.  Uniquely designed clothing pieces with elements likes holes, rips, cuts-out details etc. can also bring forth an edgy contrast.
4. Bags and other accessories with a touch of colour or striking designs can work wonders. Unique sun- and clear glasses can change a whole look if they're the right fit and match to the whole story of the outfit as well.
5. Rolling up the legs of skinny jeans takes away the regular look and adds a little bit of an edge.  It also gives you more options when it comes to the shoes to wear. You can go elegant with leather ones or super casual with sneakers and sandals without the jeans interfering with them.

One advice he has for us regarding fashion is

"that to be a success you have to face challenges, listen to your inner voice and, most importantly, never give up, just do what you love to do, and always carry on!!"
